Replacing traditional SMD Technology with Flip-chip Technology
A normal visual becomes vibrant, bright, and eye-catching with LED displays using flip chip technology compared to SMD tech. This technology aims to make the viewer transfix their vision to the display screens. Flip-chip is dominating the digital world with its cutting-edge technical capabilities and Jona LED’s products align with this initiative. Aiming to provide our customers with best innovation. Presenting the ‘XR COB series of Fixed Indoor LED Panels’ using Flip chip technology. We recommend this series for home theatres, conference rooms, smart classrooms, retail stores, malls, etc.
SMD Vs Flip chip Technology
IBM in 1962, introduced this technology to the world. However, it gained popularity in the 90s, as the need for compact designs increased. In the older methods they use wire for electrical connections between chips and the substrate. To eliminate wire bonding as in SMD technique, flip chip technology came out as an alternative. Using robotic technology, they flip semiconductor chip upside for placing solder bumps precisely . They flip solder-bump semiconductor chip again, now facing down, directly to the circuit board. No exposed pins are present, allowing for the shortest possible connection between chips and substrate. No data is lost as the electrical information is directly transferred from PCB to IC to the semiconductor chip.
Let’s take a tour of the flip-chip method’s amazing features and its working principle.
Features
- This direct connection between corresponding chips results in efficient data transfer – a significant reduction in heat dissipation, and shorter interconnection paths leading to improvement of the device’s speed.
- The quality and luminosity of visuals is not compromised bringing about ‘Ultra High Reliability’ with better stable operations.
- The mechanics is planned as moisture-resistant and anti collision, protecting electrical components from damages due to close proximity.
- The external protection ratings of Flip chip devices are IP65, despite being indoor LED display.
- The quantity of electrical components is reduced in flip-chip technology as compared to other LED tech, taking up less space. The ‘Screen-Body Temperature’ is significantly reduced by 5-10 degrees.
- The compactness does not reduce the viewing angles, infact the flip-chip LED panels comes with a wider viewing angles and higher refresh rates.
- XR COB series of Jona LED displays provide more than 3840 Hz, causing more stable performance, less visual flicker sensation, and delivers smoother visuals.
The demand for more compact and efficient design is on the rise. These positive aspects of the flip-chip method have revamped the digital market. By incorporating these innovations into our products, we at Jona LED, remain at the forefront of digital technology, providing our customers with the highest quality LED display screens and video walls.
Manufacturing Procedure
The process for designing a ‘flip chip interconnected unit’ is straightforward and involves simple steps. Fluxing – A special electrical grade cleaner fluid for cleaning the semiconductor chipboard and the circuit board. This removes any dust or imperfect elements from the boards. Soldering – Solder-bumps place in the LED semiconductor chip. Die Placement – To make sure each element is fitted over the top of the other, the soldered chip is flipped over and placed over the circuit board precisely. Reflow (Heating) – They require this step to loosen up the solder balls via heat so that they can stick to the circuit board fully. Fluxing and Underfilling – The unit should be clean before underfilling the spaces with non-conducting electrical adhesives. Adhesives help to seal the spaces, disregarding any chances of displacement of solder balls.
Conclusion
In conclusion, flip chip technology represents a significant milestone in LED display evolution, offering unparalleled performance and efficiency in the digital age. With our commitment to innovation, we continue to lead the way in delivering cutting-edge solutions to meet the evolving needs of our customers.
